The new position of the camera for C street is awful. When it snows the camera lens gets covered and there is no visible image. At night the glare of the headlights and the caution blinker creates a glare making the camera useless.
Put it back where it was...
I doubt anyone cares. This is my fourth try to have the camera corrected.
Perhaps taking it down all together would be less insulting to us VC lovers.

Wreck on Geiger Grade injures 1
By Jim Poston
I was the first on the scene on this wreck, so I have a little
information.
I was heading up the grade just before 10 a.m., about 1/4 mile
uphill of the lookout, when I saw a puff of dust rise up above the
slope on a left hand turn. It seemed a little strange, so I slowed
down, and when I came around the corner, I saw a blue pickup
truck facing uphill. It was jammed into the cut slope. The right
front wheel had come off, and there was a bunch of debris.

Hippie life returns to Virginia City
Sam Bauman
Nevada Appeal Entertainment Editor
(March 30, 2008) - In the spring of 1965, Dan Hicks became the
drummer for a nascent San Francisco folk-rock group called The
Charlatans, more of a concept than a working band.
They found employment that summer as the house band at the
newly opened Red Dog Saloon in Virginia City. The popular
hallucinogen-fueled dances held at the Red Dog were the direct
inspiration for the legendary psychedelic San Francisco dance
hall scene that then blossomed.

Red Dog film brings out unique
part of Virginia City's history
(April 9, 2008) – Last weekend another side of Virginia City
History was celebrated – the period in the mid- to late-1960s
when proto-hippies ran the Red Dog Saloon, dressing in
costume and acting out Old West fantasies, all the while
bringing in the psychedelic rock and roll area that is normally
associated with San Francisco.
The weekend’s events began Friday, April 4, at Piper’s Opera
House, with a showing of the 1996 film “Life and Times of the
Red Dog Saloon,” featuring interviews with Howard Hesseman,
John Nutt, Chandler Laughlin, aka Travus T Hipp, his late wife,
Lynn Hughes, and others who frequented the Red Dog scene.
The film was made by Don and Mary Works, integral characters

The film “Life and Times of the Red Dog Saloon” was shown Friday,

About 50 participants in three vehicles and about 6 marching
groups made up the parade, with tie-dye everywhere, flags, and
hilarious signs, like the one that said “Who put the acid in my

Modern equipment moves the
V&T reconstruction along
By Karen Woodmansee
Nevada Appeal Staff Writer
(April 14, 2008) - New rails were hammered into place for Phase
2 of the V&T Railway reconstruction Friday, but they sure don't
do it the way they used to.
The Virginia & Truckee was built in 1869 by private investors to
connect the silver mines of Virginia City to the mills in Carson
City. The rails were set and the spikes driven in by hand by
about 1,500 mostly Chinese workers.
The workers back then wouldn't recognize most of the modern
tools used to install the rails today.

I once heard a clever line on an old Western TV show. When
the sheriff of a town was praised by the town mayor, the
sheriff responded, "Don't expect too much, last time I tried
walking on water, I almost drowned."
That's how I felt over a story I wrote recently on the Storey
County budget.
I couldn't go to the county's budget meeting, because I had to
cover the Lyon County Commissioners, so I had to rely on a
few spreadsheets, someone else's notes and a few calls to
County Manager Pat Whitten to write the story, which
indicated that taxes would decrease by 3.23 cents per $100
valuation for Storey County property owners.
I really thought he said that.
I was mistaken.

By Karen Woodmansee

(April 16, 2008) - It's not only Nevada residents who are
debating the fate of the state's horses that roam the Virginia
Range - residents of Europe are interested as well.
Antonia Umlauf Baroness von Lamatsch of Austria, a

Why we at LRTC do all of this
By Willis Lamm
(April 16, 2008) - We occasionally get asked "why bother" with
respect to the apparently never ending battles with NDA and
other agencies over wild horses. Here's why.
A volunteer spotted one of the bands that we keep tabs on so I
went out to check them.
In this instance we wanted to check the condition of a foal as
well as check on a weanling filly that had gotten caught in a
fence and separated from her band the week before.

the Storey Co. Senior Center
(April 18, 2008) - On the third Wednesday of each month a
birthday party is thrown at the center for the people who were
born in that month. In April that fell on the 16th.
The menu this month was prime rib, baked potato, brussels
sprouts and birthday cake.
A large group {38} came up from Carson City under the auspices
of “ Party by George”. The George is George Fabrizius.
Chef Ron Brown said more than 74 signed in and then there were
8 home-bound and a few stragglers. In his two ovens Brown had
room for 80 baked potatoes, so latecomers were out of luck.

(April 21, 2008) - The operators of Piper's Opera House believe it
will take more than grants and successful shows to raise
enough money to restore the venerable old hall - it will take
those who like to imbibe.
With that in mind, Executive Director Dick Stoll and contractor Bo
Johansson are working hard to restore John Piper's Old Corner
Bar, which Stoll believes was located in the south section of the
first floor of the building.

Commissioners to vote on new
motorcycle event Thursday
By Karen Woodmansee
Nevada Appeal Staff Writer
(April 21, 2008) - For a long time, Dan Norby has wanted to bring
his motorcycle event to Virginia City.
He felt he got his best chance for the 30th anniversary of the
Dapper Memorial Day Run, when officials from the Ramada Inn
agreed to provide a place for his activities and use of their liquor
license for the bar.
He proposed his event, set for May 23-25, before the Storey
County Commissioners earlier this week, for the first public
hearing on the event. It was met with some hesitation.
The Commissioners will consider the event again at 2 p.m.
Thursday at the Courthouse.
